Full citizenship is part of the much-desired American dream. Naturalization is the path to realizing this aspect of the dream. While rewarding, the process is frequently perplexing and time-consuming. Shankar Law Office is dedicated to assisting non-citizens of the United States in achieving their goals of becoming permanent residents and/or citizens of the country. Though the path to naturalization is complicated and at times frustrating, you do not have to go through it alone. Our attorneys at Shankar Law Office have extensive experience assisting individuals seeking US citizenship through naturalization. • Certificate of Citizenship

Certificate Of Citizenship

Basic Prerequisites:

According to the Child Citizenship Act of 2000, any child may automatically obtain US citizenship if all of the following criteria are met by the age of 18:

  • You must be under the age of 18 on or before February 27, 2001.
  • Have at least one U.S. citizen parent in custody;
  • Already have permanent residency in the United States (green card holder) and reside in the United States; and
  • If adopted, you have already had a final and complete adoption.
  • Any child who meets these guidelines (or adults who met these requirements before the age of 18) can obtain a certificate of citizenship to prove his or her citizenship in the United States.

Application Process:

An applicant must visit his or her designated US CIS office, interview, and pick up his or her certificate of citizenship after filing the initial application for a certificate of citizenship. If the applicant is still a minor at the time of application, he or she must be accompanied to the US CIS offices by a U.S. citizen parent. Unlike the naturalization process, applicants are not required to take an English language test, a Government and History test, or an oath.

Replacement of Naturalization Certificate and Certificate of Citizenship

Basic Requirements:

  • Individuals should apply for a replacement Naturalization Certificate or Certificate of Citizenship if one or more of the following circumstances occur:
  • When a person’s naturalization or citizenship certificate is misplaced, damaged, or destroyed;
  • When a US citizen’s name is changed as a result of marriage or court order, and the name listed on the Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship is the prior name;
  • The data on your Naturalization or Citizenship Certificate is incorrect.
  • If you are unsure whether you need to replace your Naturalization Certificate or Certificate of Citizenship, contact the Shankar Law Office to speak with an experienced immigration attorney.

Unfortunately, even minor errors at any stage of the application process can cause lengthy delays or even complete rejection of your application. Fortunately, by working with an experienced legal professional, you can avoid these common blunders and increase your chances of having your citizenship application approved.
